Google Wants You To Stay With Them

Well it seems like Skynet, umm I mean Google, wants you to stay cozy with them. The picture above was from Google.com. Now this may have been a feature for awhile but you can customize the background image for the Google Search Page. I know that a lot of people are paranoid about Google, however, I don’t care that much. You have to understand yes Google probably knows more about you than you do but so do many other companies that you do not think about. Think about what kind of info Facebook needs to gather to give you those targeted ads. I guarantee that there are companies keeping tabs on you that you would never think. Now some people are not to privy to that, such a small group within ‘Anonymous’ which I posted about the other day. Here is a video of what they are planning to do to Facebook and the reason why.


However, I’m not here to talk about how a company keeps track of you (maybe another time). I’m here to talk about how Google is trying to keep you on their sites.The number one example of this that they just implented, is Google+. Now Google+ is a new social medium for people. By this I mean that it is Twitter and more so Facebook’s Competition. The great thing that Google has going for them is that they already have major services that people use and they can tie all of those together. For example, if someone comments on one of my posts on Google+ I don’t need to be there to get the notification. If I am in Gmail or Google Documents I can get a notification there. This is all thanks to their universal service bar if you will. Now they have not implemented this across all of their sites. Most surprisingly to me is that it is not implemented on Youtube, sites like Adsense or Adwords, and it is poorly done on the Android Market place.

What I really like about this universal service bar is that I can go from Google+, to Gmail, Docs, etc. in just one click. Google really makes it easy for you to be able to use what you need with one account. With that being said though you need to watch out that, if you only use Google and have that one account, your account doesn’t get banned. However, unless you are doing illegal activity with it you should be good.

Now I believe that Google’s smartest move was buying Android, Inc. in August 2005. Yes you read that right Google bought Android. A lot of people think that Google made Android from scratch but that’s not the case. In any case with their acquisition of Android they were able to truly amplify their services. Yes they still offer their services on iOS or even Windows Phone but now they can make their apps how they like and not have to worry about companies like Apple approving it. Android is arguably their best project to date and it’s not really making them a lot of money. You have to keep in mind that Google does not get paid for companies to use the Android OS. They give out the software for free to companies like HTC or Motorola.

The nice thing about Android is that you can make it your own. I think that this is going to be a major selling point for all of Google’s products going forward. From setting up your circles on G+, changing the background on Google Search or Gmail, or even making your smartphone look exactly the way you want it to. Google clearly wants to be the place you go to first and never leave. I believe that Google wants to be the central and only point in your life.
